Young Artist Award – Competition Format

What is the format of this competition?

Participants are required to submit the particular artwork that received a diploma award during the preceding year for this next level competition. (A new artwork is not required for this competition! )

The adjudicators’ panel will adjudicate all artworks according to the school grade of participants (as in the preceding year). All participants will receive feedback and a certificate to confirm that they have participated in this competition.

The adjudicators will select the best artwork in each grade and will then select a winner in each of the following categories: 

  • Entry Level (Gr. 0 – 3
  • Junior (Gr. 4 – 7)
  • Senior (Grade 8 – Open Section)

Previously the winners were announced at the annual Young Performer Awards Competition, presented at the Roodepoort Theatre. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic this was not possible and it was decided to explore other options.

With the support of Alice Art Gallery it was decided to provide a new opportunity for our young artists. Subsequently, the art works of all the grade winners were put on display at the Alice Art Gallery where it could be viewed by visitors to the gallery.

At the end of the exhibition all the grade winners and their families were invited to an awards ceremony at the Gallery where all Grade Winners were presented with Certificates to this effect. At this event the 3 category winners were also be announced and they were presented with trophies in each or the 3 categories.
